DO YOU SHOOT FILM?
Yes, I shoot some film at each wedding. The amount of film I shoot varies – according to the schedule & lighting. I love the beauty of film & edit my digital images to look like film. Film really excels in proper lighting and can make stunning bridal portraits. Nevertheless, I also appreciate the versatility of today’s professional digital cameras.
YOU SAY YOU’RE A “HYBRID SHOOTER” – WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?
Being a “Hybrid Shooter” means I shoot in both film & digital formats. Digital can be very useful and make sense in some scenarios (i.e. at the reception, low-light situations, fast-moving shots, large group portraits). I will often use the film images I’ve shot as a reference for editing the colors and tones of the digital images. Therefore, my digital images match up with my film images quite well and you have a seamless collection with a cohesive look.
CAN YOU JUST SHOOT FILM AT MY WEDDING?
I can , if you like, depending on the the time of day for coverage and the venue. For this option I would need to provide a custom quote to cover the extra film & processing costs.
HOW DO YOU PRESENT US WITH OUR FINAL COLLECTION?
In 2018 I will be presenting clients with their wedding collection at a Viewing Meeting arranged at my studio. My intention is for this presentation to feel as special as possible. You will also be viewing your images on a color-calibrated large screen. After that you will leave with your flash drive and a link to the online gallery.
DO YOU CHARGE SALES TAX?
I charge the appropriate Sales Tax (depending on the location of your wedding) on all physical deliverables.
CAN WE GET ALL OF THE WEDDING IMAGES YOU TOOK?
No, I do not deliver all the images taken, nor do I deliver the RAW files. I select the best images from those shots and then delete the rest. I make a point of not deleting any files which are the only image of a particular guest. (even if it’s not the greatest photo). Ultimately I like to present my clients with a memorable & special collection of curated images.
DO YOU WORK WITH AN ASSISTANT?
Most of the time I work with an Assistant, yes. For any of my Premium Offerings (Collection no. 04 or higher) or weddings outside the Twin Cities Metro area, I bring along my Assistant. When a Second Shooter is included in a package, my Second Shooter will also operate as an Assistant, but mostly stick to coverage.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN WHEN YOU SAY YOU GIVE US “EDITED IMAGES”?
That means that I edit the images shot in RAW format (and even the film images) according to how I like them to look – the distinctive color palette & style you see on my site. I also do basic retouching on all portraits, including removing facial imperfections (zits, blemishes), removing distracting objects from a photo, and selective sharpening.
HOW DO YOU JUGGLE SHOOTING PHOTOS, FILM & VIDEO?
Over time I’ve learned how to most efficiently get the shots I need. My Second Shooter will often be handling the camera when I’m taking photos. I do direct a bit, but for the most part she knows what to capture. As for film, I have several pre-loaded cartridges so typically no one is waiting around for me to load film.
WE DON’T WANT OUR IMAGES ON YOUR SITE OR PUBLISHED ONLINE. CAN WE GET THAT WRITTEN INTO THE CONTRACT?
Yes, however, I do charge a fee of 20% of your total balance if you want me to give up my co-copyright. Simply put, it would be very difficult for me to build a sustainable business if I wasn’t able to show my work on my site & publish it online. I fully understand the need for privacy and I can use different names when publishing online, if you like.
WHEN DO WE GET OUR IMAGES? CAN WE PRINT THROUGH YOU?
I typically will deliver your images within six weeks of your wedding date.As you can see listed earlier in this Pricing Book, I have a number of Printing options available, if you’d like to print through me. You can order prints directly from your online gallery. You are also given two Print Releases in case you wish to order prints elsewhere.
ARE YOU AVAILABLE FOR DESTINATION WEDDINGS?
Absolutely! I love to travel. I’m currently looking to expand my destination wedding portfolio, so I keep my fees minimal. You can check out a page earlier in this guide for more info on my Travel Fess. Other than those, my collections pricing are the same costs as listed.
DO YOU HAVE BACKUP GEAR & INSURANCE? WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU GET SICK?
Yes, of course! And back-up gear to my back-up gear. I’m well-stocked.As for what happens if I get sick: I will still show up and give 100%. I’ve never missed a wedding. But in a worst-case scenario, I do have photographer friends who would cover for me.
HOW DO WE BOOK?
In order to book I need to receive a signed contract & a 1,000 retainer, which is non-refundable & non-transferable. The retainer is then credited toward your final balance, which is due six weeks before your wedding.
