Country Elegance from one of the best Minnesota Barn Wedding Venues

You’ve all heard the saying that it’s good luck for it to rain on a wedding day, right?  Well, I  hope this Bloom Lake Barn wedding photo collection shows you that just because rain is in the forecast doesn’t mean your photos aren’t going to be great.  As one of the most distinctive barn wedding venues in Minnesota, Bloom Lake Barn brings a bit of rustic elegance to any wedding.

Getting Ready Photos

These photos don’t have to be of you and your bridesmaids barefaced, just having rolled out of bed.  Typically, if a bride wants getting ready photos, I will start shooting these just after the details shots.  I think that these photos often tell a good story when you consider the whole wedding day.  The moments of anticipation and the camaraderie between the bride and bridesmaids is part of the entire experience.

Bridal Veil Photos

The bride in her veil is one of my favorite photos to take.  Perhaps it’s because there is something timeless about it.  Also, so often we see a veil but it’s never really incorporated into the photos in a meaningful way.  If the bride is comfortable with it, I like to capture this type of ethereal bridal veil shot.

Bride & Groom Portraits

This part of the day should always flow pretty easily.  It’s probably my favorite part of any wedding.  It’s important that my clients feel comfortable in front of the camera.  After all, it’s their wedding day and they have so many things on their mind.  Typically we will have worked together before your wedding for your engagement photos.  This helps “break the ice” and also accustoms you to how I work.  I like to give my clients something to do when taking bride and groom portraits.  This can be as simple as walking from point A to point B.  I also give more specific and technical directions like “chin up”, “lean on your left foot”, etc.  And of course, lots of positive affirmation because you’re beautiful and it’s your wedding day.

The Family Photos are the ones almost everyone wants.  Yes, sometimes they are a bit of drag for all involved.  But I do try to keep it fun, upbeat and efficient.  For the Family photos I will have an Assistant read off the name combinations from a prepared list you give me.  Of course, I do take the standard group portraits, but my favorite images from this part of the day tend to be the candid shots in between groupings.

Bloom Lake Barn Wedding Ceremony

In spite of the threat of rain, Julia and Corey got to have their wedding ceremony in the beautiful outdoors at Bloom Lake Barn.  The set up with the white pews was very special indeed and the ceremony space was surrounded by lush trees.  During the ceremony my focus is on the authentic emotional moments.  They happen so fleetingly that I make sure to anticipate them.  It’s important to know the key figures in the couple’s lives and make sure you capture their reactions and interactions during the ceremony.

Choosing MN Outdoor Wedding Venues

The decision process of selecting a MN wedding venue can be tricky.  There are so many things to consider, such as: Is the venue equipped with a rain alternative?  How many weddings have they hosted?  How many people will be on staff working your wedding day?  I’ve shot several barn weddings and I found that Bloom Lake Barn was most prepared for the many stresses of a wedding day.  At one of the first weddings I ever shot was the barn ended up being leaky (on a very rainy day) and the view understaffed.  This of course was not so at Bloom Lake Barn.  They were equally prepared for an outdoor ceremony, as they were to move the ceremony inside their massive barn.  When there’s a forecast of rain but you want a MN outdoor wedding venue, that sort of flexibility is very important.

Candid Wedding Photos

Cocktail Hour is a great time to capture candid wedding photos of your guests.  Some weddings (such as this Bloom Lake Barn wedding) have a lot of kids and so I make an effort to also capture the joyful aspects of childhood during this time of day.  I’m really just focusing on capturing kids being themselves, as I find they love the camera and their playfulness adds to the collection.  One of my favorite photos here wis an image below of the grandmother with the child.  Capturing the generations together is also something important in any wedding photography collection.

Wedding Reception Photos

When I get to the wedding reception photos, I am no longer using natural light.   You can see that here in this Bloom Lake Barn Wedding. The sun has typically fallen by this point and I’m using an on-camera flash to capture clear, crisp images of the proceedings.  This is also a time of day where people have let their hair down, are sweating, and so I often will shoot many of these images as black-and-white because it tends to be more forgiving and classically timeless in how it looks.
